Who is Agathena?
The story of how Agathena, a spiritual Dragon, came into my life. By Jennifer Thevalyn
Agathena and Me
A Dragon?
This is the story of how Agathena, a spiritual Dragon, came into my life.
My connection with Dragons began, I suppose, the same way it does for many of us — in childhood. I was always drawn to novels, movies, and pictures of Dragons. I didn’t think much of it at the time; it was simply there, a quiet thread woven through my life.
Then my daughter began showing the same fascination. She decorated her walls with Dragons, read the same kinds of books I once loved, and immersed herself in their world.
When How to Train Your Dragon was released, something awakened in her — a soul memory, a recognition. Watching this through her eyes stirred something in me too, but at that stage I thought it was just curiosity.
As the years passed
As the years passed, I began meeting people who were actively tuning into Dragon energy. I opened myself a little more, reading and exploring what this could mean. Could Dragons have been real? Were they part of our true history? Why did they appear in so many spiritual teachings, folktales, and ancient stories? Surely they were more than fantasy.
A deeper call began to rise inside me — was this simply interest, or was it remembrance?
Even then, I still believed Dragons were something other people connected to. Other people remembered the histories. Other people carried the Dragon lineage. Not me… or so I thought.
Then I Went to France
In France, we visited three of Mary Magdalene’s caves in the lower region of France (insert region here). The first cave felt like a womb. I curled into the back of the cave with no fear at all — just calmness. I lay down on the earth and felt the energy holding me. From the angle where the others sat, they later told me I looked exactly like a Dragon resting. I still smile at that.
The second cave carried immense grief. It sat on a slope, not easy to settle on, but a few of us found space toward the back. The caves were small, yet the energy was overwhelmingly strong. While sitting there, one woman beside me suddenly released a Dragon roar — raw, ancient, powerful. And then, one by one, the rest of us joined her.
A Dragon roar rose from deep within me… one I didn’t know existed.
I allowed the sound to move through me, unfiltered and instinctive. With each roar, the energy in the cave shifted — clearing, transforming, rebalancing. Light language flowed through me freely, more naturally than ever before.
Later, we learned that some of our group who couldn’t enter the cave were above us on the ground… also roaring.
A few months later
A few months later, during a Camelot retreat in Maleny on the Sunshine Coast, Agathena arrived.
We were browsing a beautiful shop filled with herbs, books, crystals, and spiritual treasures. I wasn’t feeling well — dizzy, as though my body was cleansing and recalibrating. I sat for a moment among the books to ground myself.
One of the women with us — someone whose Dragon energy is unmistakably strong — was being shown several crystal Dragon heads by the shop staff. She picked them up, listened to them, and put them down again. I watched quietly, the dizziness still swirling around me.
Then, without thinking, I found myself walking over to her just as they handed her another Dragon head. She held it, felt it, then placed it back down.
And I picked it up.
Agathena.
Agathena The Fire Dragon
The connection was instant — like she slid straight into my sacral chakra. I couldn’t put her down. The energy between us was unmistakable, alive, deeply familiar. I knew immediately she was coming home with me.
As soon as we left the shop, I didn’t want her in a bag — I wanted to hold her. Her voice came through clearly, excited to finally be leaving the store… and mildly offended that the shop assistant had mistaken her for male. (She made her feelings very clear.)
Back at the retreat, I placed her on the grass in the sun. Our energies intertwined, activating something inside me that I had never felt before. Memories, emotions, and communication began to flow. I was bonding with a Fire Dragon — Agathena.
That night, I set her on the bedside table, but she insisted on being closer. She needed to be in the bed with me. So I curled around this large, heavy crystal — easily the size of a large dog’s head (she is laughing at this comparison) — and as I drifted into sleep, she showed me an image of herself wrapped around me while I snuggled into her stomach. That is how we fell asleep.
From that moment, our work together began.
She travels with me to retreats and gatherings, always eager to participate in the spiritual work. I even have a smaller version of her that I share with another woman — this smaller Agathena has travelled to sacred sites in Europe, visited Uluru, and continues to journey where the large Agathena cannot (she is far too heavy to pack, but she comes on every local trip).
Agathena loves flying through the caves, communing with Dragons, connecting with the elemental realms, and weaving through different dimensions. She is alive, conscious, ancient, and playful — a powerful companion and teacher.
